Valley Children's pediatric specialists, medical staff members and their families along with Tree Fresno partnered to plant dozens of trees along a new trail on the hospital’s campus.
Last summer, Tree Fresno received a grant from CAL FIRE Urban and Community Forestry Program, which provides tree planting resources to Madera, Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties. A portion of those funds covered the planting of trees that will run along Valley Children’s ponding basin trail, a loop designed to provide Valley Children’s patients, families and staff a wellness path near the hospital. That loop will eventually connect with a larger trail system that runs through several nearby neighborhoods. Since 2017, Tree Fresno, with help from community volunteers and partners, has planted nearly 7,500 large-canopy, drought-tolerant trees under grants managed by CAL FIRE. Altogether, Tree Fresno has planted nearly 53,000 urban trees throughout the Central San Joaquin Valley.
