Dr. Nika Howell joined Valley Children's Hospital in October 2014 as a pediatric hospitalist. She has a special interest in advancing the care of medically underserved children, patient advocacy and medical education.
Dr. Howell completed her undergraduate studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and obtained her medical degree from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She completed her pediatric residency training in Atlanta, Georgia at Morehouse School of Medicine, with a focus on providing quality care in the context of poverty and limited patient access. She is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine.
Dr. Howell specializes in the care of medically fragile and chronically ill children as a complex care hospitalist. Her research interests include improving hospital management for medically complex patients, and pediatric dental health. Dr. Howell serves as co-chair of the Graduate Medical Education subcommittee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, working to ensure equitable patient care and diversity within medical education. She additionally serves on hospital committees for Vascular Access Safety, Graduate Medical Education, and the steering committee for Schwartz Rounds conferences. She has been a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 2014 and is a member of the sections on Minority Health, Equity and Inclusion, and Hospital Medicine.
Dr. Howell is passionate about improving quality of life for patients and families through compassion, advocacy, and provision of the best possible care.
