Dr. Krista Lai joined Valley Children’s Medical Group as a pediatric surgeon in 2024.
Dr. Lai’s clinical expertise spans a wide range of pediatric surgical procedures, with a particular interest in neonatal surgeries and pain management strategies such as intercostal nerve cryoablation. Her contributions to the field include an extensive portfolio of peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. She has presented her research at international conferences, highlighting her commitment to improving patient outcomes and advancing pediatric surgical techniques.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Lai is a dedicated educator and mentor, frequently leading teaching sessions for medical residents and nurses. She has been recognized for her excellence in teaching with awards such as the Canadian Association of General Surgeons Excellence in Teaching Award and the RE Fraser Scholarship.
Dr. Lai is s a member of professional organizations, including the American Pediatric Surgical Association and the International Pediatric Endosurgical Group. She completed her fellowship in pediatric general surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, following a research fellowship at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Dr. Lai earned her Doctor of Medicine and a master’s degree in health sciences education from the University of Alberta, where she also completed her residency in general surgery. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Canada.
