Dr. Uwe Blecker is a distinguished pediatric gastroenterologist renowned for his expertise in gastrointestinal disorders and pediatric nutrition, who joined the gastroenterology team at Valley Children’s in 2024. With a career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Blecker has made significant contributions to the field through his clinical practice and research endeavors.

Dr. Blecker earned his medical degree having graduated magna cum laude from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium in 1990 and then went on to complete a residency in pediatrics at the Academic Children's Hospital, Free University of Brussels. He pursued further specialization with a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition, Dr. Blecker has held pivotal roles at prestigious institutions across the United States. Currently serving as Nemours Children’s Clinic Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology in Pensacola, FL, he also holds appointments as medical director of pediatric gastroenterology at West Florida Hospital and professor of pediatrics at Mayo College of Medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Blecker has been dedicated to advancing pediatric gastrointestinal care through extensive research and academic pursuits. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and served as a reviewer and publisher for several scientific journals such as the American Journal of Pediatrics, Pediatrics European Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, just to name a few. His research interests include inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric nutrition and gastrointestinal disorders in children.

Dr. Blecker’s contributions have been recognized with several honors and awards, including being named to America’s Top Pediatricians and receiving the American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award and the American Academy of Pediatrics CME/CPD Award.

Dr. Blecker is an active member of various professional organizations, including the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Blecker is committed to community service and has been involved with the CCFA’s Medical Advisory Committee and Outreach Subcommittee in Central and Northeastern Florida.
