Practice Philosophy
Dr. Dimmock is passionate about improving the standard of care for children and adults with inborn errors of metabolism. Through more than 20 years of clinical experience, his medical practice has become focused on patient and family led care. This has included the identification and deployment of novel therapeutics for rare disorders identified through newborn screening and advanced genomic techniques.
Board certified in medical genetics, clinical biochemical genetics and pediatrics, Dr. David Dimmock joined the genetics team at Valley Children’s in August 2022.
Dr. Dimmock is an internationally renowned expert in the field of clinical genomic medicine. Prior to Valley Children’s, he was the senior medical director of Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine and worked for the University of California, San Diego Department of Family Medicine and Migrant Clinic where he focused on underserved populations. In addition to various consulting positions, Dr. Dimmock previously worked at the Medical College of Wisconsin as an associate professor of pediatrics and served as chair of the State of Wisconsin newborn screening metabolic disease subcommittee.
In addition to being a member of the Society of Inherited Metabolic Diseases and fellow for the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, he has held key roles for the National Institute of Health and as principal investigator on multiple clinical trials of novel therapeutics in rare metabolic diseases. As a pioneer in the field of genetics, he has been an invited advisor to the Federal and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Institute of Medicine and Genomics England/National Genomics Board. His work and research shared international in various posters, presentation and peer reviewed journals including Pediatrics, American Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Genetics.
Dr. Dimmock earned a medical degree from St George’s, University of London in England. With a passion for adult and pediatric metabolic diseases, he went on to complete a pediatric residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He then completed fellowships in clinical and biochemical genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he also completed a master’s degree focused on clinical trial design.
