Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Daniel Orellana joined the gastroenterology team at Valley Children’s in 2024.
Dr. Orellana earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Upon completion, he went on to complete a pediatric residency at Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program, Affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine. Dedicated to pediatrics, he went back to UCLA to complete a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology through Ronald Reagan Medical Center.
With a passion for advancing the care of children with digestive disorders, Dr. Orellana is involved in pediatric gastroenterology research, which has focused on understanding how dairy consumption affects gut microbiota and disease activity in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as well as plant-based formulas in pediatric patients with Crohn’s disease. He has presented his research at national conferences and has published on the topic of plant-based formulas in pediatric Crohn’s disease.
Dr. Orellana has a rich history of community service, including his long-standing role as a volunteer and organizer for the Lennox Health Fair, where he contributed to organizing various health screening stations. He also volunteered in Nicaragua, assessing emergency response systems and highlighting the need for improved triage and training. Active in his medical community, he is also a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Orellana enjoys weightlifting, bicycling and spending time at the beach. He also enjoys football, hiking and comedy.
