Volunteer Opportunities

Our goal is to match volunteers with opportunities that serve our patients, families and staff while providing volunteers with a meaningful experience that is consistent with their skills and interests. Our volunteers support the entire organization, serving in a variety of roles, all of which are instrumental in delivering quality care and services to the patients and families that Valley Children’s serves.

The majority of our volunteers work directly with patients, playing games, reading books, delivering crafts, and movies or assisting with arts and crafts at the bedside or in the hospital playrooms. There are also opportunities available with little or no patient care where volunteers help in our various clinics or at the information desks as greeters.

To engage patients and siblings of all ages, volunteers make a six-month commitment on a weekly or biweekly basis (eight hours a month). We offer flexible scheduling and will work with you to determine a schedule that meets your needs as well as ours.

For more information and to apply, please visit our volunteer requirements page.

All Volunteer Opportunities

Below is a list of volunteer positions at Valley Children's. Please note that this is not a list of current openings; positions currently accepting applications are listed in the "Current Volunteer Position Openings" section above.

Big Hearts for Little Hands (Short-term Volunteer Opportunity)

A visit from a friendly face can make a world of difference for a young patient at Valley Children’s Hospital. For groups or individuals who are interested in volunteering, but are not able to commit to a regular volunteer schedule, we welcome you to consider the Big Hearts for Little Hands program, led by our Child Life team. The program was designed for infrequent volunteer visitors and offers an opportunity to volunteer up to three times a year.

George's Clubhouse Volunteers

Assist the Child Life team in providing a fun, engaging, activity-rich setting for inpatients during their hospital stay. Volunteers initiate activities and computer games to provide kids opportunities to play while in the hospital. Volunteers are cross-trained for both the playroom and clubhouse.

Weekdays: 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Cuddlers

Cuddlers soothe premature infants ranging from tiny preemies to larger full term babies; as well as infants suffering from maternal drug use withdrawal. Cuddler volunteers are specially trained by our neonatal nurses to hold, rock and interact with our tiniest patients when their parents can’t be with them at the Hospital. Candidates for the cuddler role are promoted from within our patient pal volunteer pool and have expressed an interested in being trained by the neonatal nursing team. Classes are typically offered once a year.
