Cancer and blood disorders expertise

At Valley Children’s, our team provides the expertise to diagnose and treat newborns to young adults with cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors and blood related disorders such as hemophilia or thalassemia. As one of the leading pediatric cancer facilities on the west coast, our center serves as the only provider of pediatric oncology services between Los Angeles and the Bay Area.

More about our services

Valley Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center provides the breadth of specialized services and depth of experience to treat a range of cancer and blood disorder conditions, from the most common to the rarest conditions. The center includes an outpatient unit with treatment rooms, infusion center and play area and a fully-equipped, 36-bed inpatient unit, Starship Craycoft.

How apheresis treatment reduces Demetrius's complications and hospital stays

Demetrius experienced many ups and downs throughout his care journey, including numerous hospital stays as a result of sickle cell crisis episodes – a common occurrence for SCD patients. With his SCD now under control, Demetrius can focus on his future, and work on achieving his goal of becoming a pastor, and help other people live their lives to the fullest.

Meet Abigail

After spotting a lump on Abigail's leg, her mom, Perla, knew something wasn’t right and went to Valley Children’s Emergency Department. Three days before her seventh birthday, Abigail underwent comprehensive testing to evaluate the mass. She received a series of imaging studies including an ultrasound, MRI and PET/CT. Her tissue biopsy and genetic testing confirmed the devastating news they had feared: Abigail was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in her left thigh.

Meet Jeremy: A Superhero Like No Other

Meet Jeremy. He’s a young hero whose imagination knows no bounds. He finds joy in constructing vibrant cities with magnetic tiles, creating a world of adventure for his beloved superhero action figures, led by his favorite, Spiderman. But Jeremy’s life is more than just play. He faces a formidable foe called Hemoglobin H Constant Spring, a type of alpha thalassemia. This condition was an unexpected adversary, diagnosed through newborn screening, and Jeremy’s first blood transfusion came at just six months old.

Autumn's Journey: Fighting Aplastic Anemia with Expert Care, Compassion and Support

Autumn was experiencing unexplained bruises, fatigue and pale skin that became so severe, it resembled the aftermath of an accident. It was August 2022 when her symptoms worsened so badly that it led her to a visit to Valley Children’s Emergency Department. After several labs and extensive diagnostic testing, Autumn found herself admitted to the hospital for further observation. It was during this hospital stay that Autumn was diagnosed with aplastic anemia.
