Our pediatric board-certified experts in neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology and neuro-oncology manage and treat a variety of patients with neurological conditions, including those with epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders and spasticity.

Valley Children’s is the only hospital in Central California to be named a level 4 epilepsy center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

Working collaboratively with other pediatric subspecialties such as genetics, neonatology, physiatry, otolaryngology (ENT), oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and plastic surgery, the center ensures high-level, compassionate and coordinated care for patients. This collaboration and family-centered care approach is key to helping families get through a difficult diagnosis. Providers, nurses, social workers, therapists, nutritionists and palliative care make sure they are always accessible and can quickly answer all your questions or concerns.

A Warm Personality and a Bright Future: Mac's Story

Born at 37 weeks with spina bifida and a severe form of Chiari malformation, a condition where brain anatomy extends into the spinal canal, Mac was immediately transported to Valley Children’s Hospital. Today, this thriving 11-year-old enjoys reading, playing video games, board games and card games, and watching sports, the San Francisco Giants, whose colors he proudly sports on his wheelchair.

Shawn and Adrianna Build Lasting Relationships at the "Castle on the Hill"

Shawn and Adrianna were both born with spina bifida, a birth defect in which a baby’s spinal cord fails to develop properly. Because of the developmental challenges of spina bifida, they have been patients at Valley Children’s Hospital since they were babies. “We have spent a lot of time at the hill,” their mom Dianne says, referring to the hospital as the “Castle on the Hill.”
