Pediatric Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat)

The Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat) Practice at Valley Children’s provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for children from neonates through to 21 years of age. As the only dedicated pediatric head and neck surgery group in Central California, we provide management of all disease processes involving the head, neck and aerodigestive tract.

Our team of board-certified, pediatric fellowship-trained head and neck surgeons performs about 4,900 operations a year and participates in lecturing, publishing and teaching. Most surgeries are outpatient, or day-surgery cases, reducing stress on the child and family.

Beyond physicians, our team includes highly skilled pediatric nurses and psychosocial support staff, including social workers, interpreters, child life specialists and more to help your patients and families.

Expertise:

Pediatric Head and Neck Oncology

While the most common pediatric malignancy of the head and neck is lymphoma, our head and neck surgery team treats all potential oncologic lesions. We offer ultrasound-guided biopsies of suspicious thyroid lesions and advanced techniques in surgical management of these lesions. All oral cavity and salivary gland lesions are treated by physicians who have spent decades teaching others their techniques.

Pediatric Sinus

We offer the most technologically advanced facility for evaluating and managing all pediatric sinus disease. We work closely with the pediatric pulmonary team in treating cystic fibrosis patients. Advanced endoscopic image guidance techniques in surgical management of sinus disease minimizes risks. Many orbital and nasal masses, and most mid-facial lesions, can be approached endoscopically, thus avoiding cosmetically deforming surgical scars.

Pediatric Otology

Pediatric hearing loss can be a debilitating and frustrating issue for both the patient and family. We offer state-of-the-art hearing rehabilitation options, including Bone Anchored Hearing Aids that help numerous children with severe hearing problems to hear again. Our surgeons have significant experience diagnosing and treating cholesteatoma, a serious otologic infection.

Pediatric Airway

We perform advanced airway surgery to improve breathing, voice and swallowing dysfunction. Obstructive sleep apnea, stridor and severe respiratory distress are conditions we treat daily. For patients with tracheostomy tubes in place, we work with families to reconstruct the airway to eliminate the need for the tracheostomy tube when appropriate.
