About Me
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine and clinical medical genetics, perinatologist Dr. Danielle Esters has a wealth of experience caring for high-risk pregnancies. She has practiced across the United States, including at CompHealth in Akron, Ohio, Presbyterian Healthcare Systems in Albuquerque, New Mexico and healthcare systems in Florida, Connecticut and California.
After earning her medical degree from Downstate Medical School at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Esters completed an internship in internal medicine at Harlem Hospital Center in Manhattan, New York. She went on to complete residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at King’s County Hospital/SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Esters continued her training with fellowships in maternal-fetal medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital/Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and fetal echocardiography and doppler research at the prestigious Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. She then completed a third fellowship in medical genetics at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.
Throughout her career, Dr. Esters has been committed to leadership, both in the clinical and academic settings. She has held multiple leadership positions, most recently as the director of perinatal medical genetics and the director of obstetric genetics education at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center in Albuquerque. She has held multiple committee assignments, including committees advising on perinatal and obstetric safety, and has served as a preceptor for the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at South University College of Nursing and Public Health in West Palm Beach, Florida.
In addition to her training and expertise, Dr. Esters has a robust academic portfolio. Her areas of research and clinical interest include reproductive genetics and prenatal diagnosis. She has presented her research at symposia, grand rounds, workshops and conferences, textbook chapters and has published in peer-reviewed journals, including Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of Ultrasound Medicine and The American Journal of Perinatology. In recent years, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Esters presented several lectures on the genetics of coronavirus and coronavirus and pregnancy.
Dr. Esters is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Clinical Genetics and Genomics, and is a member of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
