About Me

Double board certified in genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics and in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Balram Gangaram joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in 2023.

Dr. Gangaram earned his medical degree from the University of the West Indies and then completed a medical internship rotation at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. He went on to complete another internship as well as a pediatric residency through the University of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Gangaram spent more than a decade as a pediatric clinical instructor and assistant professor at several universities, including the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), West Virginia University affiliated with Ruby Memorial Hospital and Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children affiliated with John A. Burns School of Medicine, among others. During this time, Dr. Gangaram shared his expertise in medical genetics and genomics, as well as pediatrics. At UCSF, Dr. Gangaram was an active pediatric geneticist in the multidisciplinary clinic and also served on the medical genetics program committee where he supported the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all educational activities of the genetics residency program.

Throughout his teaching activities, Dr. Gangaram shared his expertise through didactic lectures and grand rounds, onsite and remote-based teaching, and division clinical meetings and case discussions. His audience and learners have included medical students, pediatric residents, genetic counselors and genetics fellows/residents. An expert in the field of genetics, Dr. Gangaram has been invited to present his research at various national presentations, and his work has been published in several abstracts and peer-reviewed journals, including Genetics in Medicine, American Journal of Human Genetics and the European Journal of Medical Genetics, just to name a few.

As an active member in the medical community, Dr. Gangaram is part of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, American Medical Association, Western Society for Pediatric Research and Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders.
