About Me

Dr. Erik C. Brown joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in 2023.

Dr. Brown is an active member of multiple professional associations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Neurocritical Care Society and the American Epilepsy Society. He is active in research in his field and has recently conducted research on topics such as mapping cerebral language function, the current state of responsive neurostimulation (RNS) in epilepsy surgery and improving quality of care with respect to lumbar drains. Dr. Brown’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals as well as presented at various conferences around the country. Additionally, Dr. Brown has served for several years as a journal reviewer, reviewing peer-reviewed journals including Scientific Reports, Epilepsy & Behavior and Frontiers in Neurology/Neuroscience.

After graduating with his medical and doctoral degrees from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Brown went on to complete a residency in neurological surgery at Oregon Health & Science University. He then moved on to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital where, in conjunction with the University of Miami, he completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery.

When Dr. Brown is not working, he enjoys being active outdoors, particularly surfing, or relaxing playing the guitar.

Research

Dr. Brown has a particular interest in studying language function in the brain using intracranial EEG with epilepsy surgery patients.
