Joshua Ibanez, DO
Why did you choose Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency?
I was drawn to Valley Children’s because of the warmth and systemic wellness I experienced when meeting the faculty. Being from California, staying close to my family was also important, and I immediately felt like I would be part of a supportive team that shares my commitment to holistic pediatric care.
Hobbies:
In my free time, I recharge by cooking, swimming, and exploring new ways to stay active—most recently through pickleball. I also love dancing (especially swing), rock climbing, and playing board games. These have definitely helped me maintain a balanced perspective and a playful spirit, qualities I hope to bring into my clinical practice.
Advocacy and Research Interests and Accomplishments:
Throughout my journey, I’ve been passionate about advocating for children’s resources, mental health, and education. I’m particularly interested in research on acute and chronic pediatric conditions and mental health crises. I aim to engage communities by promoting preventive care and encouraging healthy habits.
Care Philosophy:
I believe in meeting children and their families where they are—emotionally, developmentally, and culturally—and affirming their dignity, individuality, and potential inherent in their lives. My approach involves building genuine trust through openness, curiosity, and playfulness, whether that’s acknowledging a favorite cartoon or engaging in imaginative conversation. By seeing each patient as if they were my own family, I hope to create an environment of comfort, empowerment, and deep respect for both the child and their loved ones.
