About Me
Board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Anna VanGarsse joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in June 2025. She serves as the medical director of Valley Children’s Primary Care Group, overseeing patients throughout the Central Valley.
Prior to her current role, Dr. VanGarsse was associate dean of Clinical Medical Education and associate professor of Pediatrics at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine, while also serving as an active medical staff member at UCR Health. She has extensive leadership, teaching and scholarly experience by having overseen daily operations, developed and maintained curricula, strengthened community partnerships and directed service-learning programs. In these roles, she also chaired and co-chaired numerous committees and subcommittees and coordinated courses, all while maintaining active medical staff duties.
Dr. VanGarsse received her medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and went on to complete a pediatric residency at its affiliate hospital, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. She is a fellow of the American Association for Physician Leadership and holds memberships in the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Academic Academy of Pediatrics and several other professional organizations. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Throughout her career, Dr. VanGarsse has been deeply engaged in professional service, contributing to committees, often in leadership roles. She has taught for many years and presented at national and regional conferences, including the American Association of Physician Leadership Annual Conference and the Annual Health Equity Symposium at UCSF Fresno. She has delivered invited talks, authored peer-reviewed journal articles and contributed to scholarly publications and poster presentations. Dr. VanGarsse has also been featured in media interviews and is active in the broader community through service and outreach initiatives. She is dedicated to lifelong learning, continually pursuing professional development opportunities.
