NICU Family Resources and Support

At Valley Children's we provide patient and family-centered care, knowing that parent and family support of medically fragile babies is crucial. Patient and family-centered care is an “an approach to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of health care that is grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among health care providers, patients and families” (Institute for Family-Centered Care).
Our approach to Patient and Family -Centered Care in the NICU is to ensure that parents are considered part of the healthcare team, partnering with them in the care and decision making process during their hospital stay. We treat all families with dignity and respect, honoring their cultural perspective and choices, and provide timely and accurate information. The healthcare team provides education, encouragement and support to parents and families through their NICU journey.
Education for Families
We offer a variety of classes to help parents care for and bond with their baby while their are in the NICU. We also provide classes to prepare families for their baby's homecoming.

Our Parent-to-Parent program for NICU families was created by volunteer parents who are our Parent Partners – parents who have had first-hand experience with at least one newborn in the NICU. The program is dedicated to giving parents a collective support system with access from anywhere.
