(Madera, Calif.) – In a significant display of pediatric expertise, abstracts submitted by 12 Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program residents, chief residents, and medical students were accepted for presentation at the Western Medical Research Conference this January.
Pediatric residents Dr. Youmna Moufarrej, Dr. Alexandra Drury, Dr. Krystal Jin, Dr. Maryam Hockley, Dr. Mariel Marquez, Dr. Rajvee Sanghavi, Dr. Adriana Etcheverry, Dr. Kavitha Arulmozhi and Dr. Danielle Jones; chief residents Dr. Anahita Emamian and Dr. Adrianna Sosa; and medical student Lauren D’ Annibale will present their research January 19-21 in Carmel.
The Western Medical Research Conference (WMRC) provides a supportive forum for medical students and residents to present and defend their original research and explore other research in their field of interest.
“We are so proud of our residents, chief residents and medical student for this significant accomplishment,” said Dr. Vini Vijayan, Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program Director. “Conducting quality research and disseminating findings helps all physicians provide better care to our patients and our communities.”
Each resident/student research project is supported by a Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program faculty member or mentor. Mentors for the projects represent a wide variety of pediatric specialties offered at Valley Children’s: pediatric hospital medicine, pediatric critical care medicine, genetic medicine, pediatric rheumatology and pathology.
“It’s critically important to have dedicated mentors on research projects,” said Dr. Vijayan. “By investing in our residents, our mentors teach the fundamentals and contribute to advancing pediatric medical research, which can have benefit kids years into the future.”
WMRC is organized by the American Federation for Medical Research (AFMR), an organization focused on advancing multidisciplinary medical research. The AFMR focuses especially on translational research – research that can be translated into results, best practices and other insights that can directly benefit patients.
