Let’s be honest, fairs are not known for their healthy food options. Between the deep-fried goodies and treats loaded with sugar, it may seem impossible to choose healthy options for your family. But if you're a parent trying to balance fun with healthy habits this fair season, it is possible and we are here to help!

Use the list below to help guide you to make nutritious (and delicious!) choices at the fair this year!

  1. Roasted Corn – This is a fair staple and can typically be found at many vendors throughout the fair. Whether you are eating it on the cob or in a cup with lime and seasonings, this fair treat is a great nutritious option.
  2. Turkey legs – Who hasn’t gone to a fair and been jealous of someone walking by eating a whole turkey leg?! This is a protein-packed snack that can easily be shared by the whole family.
  3. Fruit cups – A delicious fair treat that is perfect for a hot day. Pro tip: Try adding Tajin to your fruit for added flavor and spice!
  4. Pickles – Pickles are the ultimate portable snack! Grab a pickle and walk the fairgrounds to enjoy all the fair has to offer.
  5. Grilled Kebabs – Kebabs are typically grilled chicken or beef skewers that will also sometimes include grilled vegetables. These snacks are another great shareable item for your family and will keep you fueled for a fun day at the fair!

Choosing healthier options at the fair doesn’t mean missing out on the fun. Next time you head to the fair, keep this list handy and feel confident knowing you’re making choices that are both festive and nourishing!
